Army Whistleblower Tries to Blow whistle, but Ends up in Prison

An Army soldier tried to blow the whistle on a plot to kill Afghan civilians, but found there was no standard operating procedure for doing so.  The result, he said, was to participate in the plot, under pressure.  He later was given a reduced sentence for a lessor included offense for testifying against the other participants.  The military combat culture makes it very difficult, if not impossible for a soldier to blow the whistle on any criminal activity out of fear of reprisal, not being taken seriously, or being labeled a “rat” and being made to endure the hostilities of other soldiers.
